Barrier
Ceramides
Ceramides are lipids that make up a major part of the 'mortar' between surface skin cells, keeping the barrier sealed and limiting water loss. Topical ceramides help skin feel less rough, sting less and recover faster after strong actives.

How to use
Usually found in moisturizers, gentle cleansers and repair serums; labels may list ceramide NP, AP or EOP. Use morning and night every day, especially in the moisturizer step.
Pairing
They work best alongside cholesterol and fatty acids in a ratio close to the skin's own lipids. Pairs well with niacinamide, retinoids and AHA/BHA to offset dryness.
